Comfort in Community- The BMSAC AGM

The most transformative experience that has shaped my experience as a Black medical student was attending the 2023 annual general meeting of the Black Medical Students Association of Canada (BMSAC). It was my first time attending the organization’s AGM but will not be my last. Being in a room with over 150 other Black students, getting to share our stories, network, and discuss our ideas, hopes, and aspirations for ourselves as Black medical students was a priceless experience. It was touching to see how far things in medicine have come for Black people; it was also somber, yet inspiring to discuss how much more needs to be done for us in this field. The BMSAC AGM allows Black medical students to find comfort in community, helping us all navigate the course ahead of us.
